VeinGogh

What is VeinGogh?

VeinGogh is a relatively new vein treatment that uses microburst technology to eliminate small spider veins and networks of veins known as telangliectasia. The procedure can also be used to treat cherry angiomas and rosacea. VeinGogh uses an innovative process known as the Ohmic Thermolysis System, which uses heat to collapse a damaged vein so it eventually fades from view.

The unique microburst technology allows greater precision for physicians using VeinGogh to treat smaller spider veins. The precision lowers the risk of surrounding tissue and vessels suffering heat damage during treatment. It also allows for treatment of more sensitive areas, such as addressing rosacea, skin tags and cherry angiomas on the face.

VeinGogh is a minimally invasive procedure that involves little or no discomfort or downtime. Heat is administered to the affected vessel using a fiber approximately the width of a human hair. The procedure is safe for any skin type and takes just a few minutes to complete.

When is it done?

VeinGogh is a treatment option for smaller veins and lesions. It is an alternative for veins that are too small to be addressed by sclerotherapy or laser ablation. It also provides greater flexibility to treat other types of skin imperfections beyond spider veins. The procedure may be used alone or in combination with other vein treatments to achieve the best possible results.

How does the procedure work?

VeinGogh is performed as an outpatient procedure in a doctor’s office. A small stylus similar to a pencil contains the hair-like fiber that is inserted into the vein to be treated. Once the fiber has located the vein, a microburst of controlled heat energy is delivered directly inside. The heat damages the vein walls so the vein seals shut and eventually collapses completely. The vein is reabsorbed by the body over time and blood is rerouted through healthy veins nearby.

The VeinGogh procedure typically takes just a few minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of veins to be addressed. After the procedure, patients are allowed to return to their regular activities right away.

What is the recovery like?

There is no down time after the VeinGogh procedure. Some patients might experience mild redness around the treatment site, which usually disappears within a few hours after treatment. Some doctors recommend use of moisturizer or aloe gel to minimize redness and promote healing of the skin.

When will the results appear?

Results begin to appear immediately after a VeinGogh treatment and continue to improve over a number of days or weeks afterward. The specific time frame will depend on how long it takes the treated vein to seal shut and collapse.

How many treatment sessions are needed?

Some patients will achieve desired results in a single treatment session with VeinGogh. However, other patients may require a series of treatments to achieve full results. Most will not require more than two or three sessions to completely eliminate spider veins and telangliectasia.

Will veins reappear after treatment?

The veins that were treated collapse and are reabsorbed by the body, so they cannot reappear after treatment. However, new spider veins may appear in time within the same area. Subsequent treatment sessions may be recommended in these situations to maintain positive results.

What is the cost of VeinGogh?

A single treatment session using VeinGogh may run anywhere from $250 to $400. Costs vary based on the location of the doctor and the number of veins to be addressed. Because VeinGogh is primarily used as a cosmetic procedure, insurance rarely covers this treatment. However, many doctors offer financing plans to make cosmetic treatments like VeinGogh more affordable for their patients.
